My Bible Reading Plan for 2012 and Ideas for Your 2012 Bible Reading Plan

Hello again! In my previous post, I shared that I was following a Bible reading plan that would take me through the entire Bible this year. I am eight days into this plan and I am enjoying it.

Today, I am sharing an article from Ligonier Ministries. I have been blessed by their resources that they share on their website. From their website, “Ligonier Ministries is an international Christian education organization founded by theologian Dr. R.C. Sproul in 1971 to equip Christians to articulate what they believe and why they believe it. Proclaiming God’s holiness is central to our purpose.

The article that I am sharing is by Nathan W. Bingham and it is called “Bible Reading Plans for 2012.” It’s not to late to get started. So don’t let a week into the new year discourage you, if you don’t have a plan for your Bible reading this year.

I am following the Tabletalk Bible Reading Plan this year. I hope the article gives you motivation and encouragement to follow a plan to read through the Bible this year on a daily basis. Let me know if you have other ideas or plans to share on how you read through the Bible.

2012 – Happy New Year

2012. Happy New Year. I wanted to share a couple of items in my first post for 2012. The best thing I read in regards to resolutions for 2012 was this:

“Let’s resolve less and repent more.” I can’t remember who stated it, but I liked it.

Anyway, I wanted to share a blog post about making a plan to be in God’s word daily. I have resolved to follow a reading plan this year to that will take me through the entire Bible. I was able to accomplish this goal a couple of years ago and I was blessed for having gone through it.

So if you want some motivation or you are looking for a plan to be more consistent in God’s word, check out this post from Ryan Huguley entitled 3 Keys To A Daily Time In God’s Word.

God Bless.

Apple and the death of Steve Jobs

On the evening of October 5th, I came inside the house to check my email on my iPad after working late into the evening. I was working on a home project with my father-in-law. I turned on my iPad and a notification came up from USA Today reporting that Steve Jobs was dead at age 56. I was sad. Why?

I work in the technology field and I grew up using Apple computers and products since grade school. I still do some twenty plus years later. Apple was a company that was maligned during the mid-to-late 1990s. I rooted for Apple, like someone roots for their favorite sports team during that time.

Now after seeing this news, I was sad because I had a strong feeling that Steve Jobs had died without Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. For all the amazing things he had done in his life, without Christ, there would be no hope for him in the next.

A lot has been written since his death by other christian bloggers. Some posts have been judgmental and cold to a degree, while other posts have been accurate yet graceful. Since his death, the biography of Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson was released last week. I plan on reading it soon. Here is a review by Tim Challies of the book at his blog.

Anyone else read the book yet? If so, let me know what you think of it.

“Let the gospel shape your character. . .”

In my last post to this blog, I shared an article about the call of motherhood for Christian moms. As for Christian men, we are called by our Lord to great responsibilities, too. Read, Ephesians 5:18-6:4. I did, and felt convicted. But as I finished the devotion which I will share below, I found hope.  The devotion goes on to stress two important points:

  1. A godly home begins with a man who is righteous.
  2. A godly home begins with a man of integrity.

Here is another excerpt from “Gospel Meditations for Men”, Day 23, entitled, “The Papa John’s Principle”.

The righteous who walks in his integrity-
blessed are his children after him!  Proverbs 20:7

“Books abound which claim to deliver the secret to a happy home, the twelve steps to a model marriage, or God’s path to perfect kids. Some amount to behaviorism. Many fail to urge utter dependence on God, who alone is sovereign. And few, it seems, focus on the character of the individual members of the family. Proverbs 20:7 deserves our attention. It teaches what I call “The Papa John’s Principle.” You remember the pizza-maker’s common-sense slogan: “Better ingredients, better pizza.” Well, Proverbs 20:7 teaches that a godly home begins with godly individuals-and specifically, a godly man.”

“Godly homes are comprised of godly people. You want your marriage to improve? You want your relationship with your children to improve? You want to be the start of a godly legacy? Begin by growing in grace yourself. There’s no shortcut. Your walk with God “trickles down” to your relationships at home. Live a gospel-empowered life and your family will be “blessed” (Proverbs 20:7). That gives you a huge responsibility. It also gives you a huge reason for hope.

Let the gospel shape your character and thereby bless your family. – Chris Anderson”

What I’m reading . . .

These past couple of weeks I have been reading a devotional book called “Gospel Meditations for Men” by Chris Anderson and Joe Tyrpak. They are pastors at Tri-County Bible Church in Madison, Ohio. This devotional book has “thirty-one daily readings to help men be gospel-saturated – all day, every day.”

I am enjoying this book very much. For day #11, I recently read about the need for Christian friends and fellowship. It gives great detail as to what true fellowship is. Here is an excerpt from the book, “True fellowship requires humble transparency. Fellowship demands that we get real. Too many men show up for church each Sunday with their “game faces” on. We tell each other that we’re doing “Great, praise God!” But we’re not. This reading goes on to explain the need for godly friends and the need for true fellowship.

Men, if you are looking for a good devotion book, I highly recommend this book. I received it as a gift from my wife and kids for Father’s Day. You can order the book at Church Works Media.

If you order a copy, please let me know about it by leaving a comment.
